I am an Assistant Professor in the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at South Dakota State University. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under Dr. Leen-Kiat Soh. Prior to that, I completed my BS and MS degrees at South Dakota State University in 2015 and 2017, respectively. The long-term vision of my research is to establish the fundamental framework for computer vision system to support human users. Progressing towards this vision, I am actively conducting my research in the following areas: image processing, machine learning, deep learning, document understanding, medical image analysis, and visual question answering.

May 24, 2024 Congratulations, Sai, for your work “A Deep Learning Approach for Precision Phenotyping of Corn Stomata” being selected for the 🏆 Best Paper Award 🏆 at SPIE’s conference! It was a pleasure collaborating with you. Keep it up!
Aug 30, 2023 My work, “Perceptual Cue-Guided Adaptive Image Downscaling for Enhanced Semantic Segmentation on Large Document Images” was accepted for publication in IJDAR.
Jun 26, 2023 My work, “Weakly-supervised Semantic Segmentation on Historical Document Images” was accepted for publication in ACM RACS 2023 conference.
Apr 25, 2023 I have recently been offered a position as Assistant Professor at South Dakota State University.
Apr 12, 2023 Successfully defended Doctoral Dissertation “Enhancing Document Layout Analysis on Historical Newspapers: Visual Representation, Pseudo-ground-truth, and Downscaling”, and has officially graduated with a Ph.D. in Computer Science. Deepest appreciation to my advisor, Dr. Leen-Kiat Soh!
